There is a foundational journey behind all the hard and soft skills and technology that leads to a student’s first big job. To land the job or find that next opportunity, networking and relationships with peers and mentors play an important part.

Each semester, the Center for Computational Finance and Economic Systems (CoFES) hosts several guest lectures where students learn from employers in the financial services sector and researchers specializing in statistical analysis, quantitative finance, investment banking and private equity, insurance risk management, AI and systematic investing.

Recent guest lectures have included:

- Vasant Dhar, Robert A. Miller Professor of Business and Professor of Data Science, New York University

- Max Lee, Portfolio Manager, Jain Global

- Lynn Lewis, Owner (retired), Green Street Advisors, Inc.

- James Harmon, Director II of Data Science, Liberty Mutual

- Caitlin Buckley, Vice President of Investment Professional Recruiting and Davis Nelson, Vice President, both from BDT&MSD

- Boon Peng Ooi, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore and Head Of Investment Strategies at Eastspring Investments

- Rituparna Sen, Associate Professor, Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore, India

- Wentao Zhao, Global Quantitative Analytics Manager, ExxonMobil Global Trading

For over two decades, CoFES has collaborated with many academic and industry partners to develop prominent research pipelines and provide students with simulated training environments, internship opportunities, and real-world projects where they can apply their computational, statistical and mathematical techniques to understand the health of an economy and its market environments. CoFES events and guest lectures are listed at cofes.rice.edu.
