Maxwell Lee

Rice University alumnus and quantitative analyst Maxwell Lee is one of 600 trailblazers in North America to make the 2023 honor roll of unconventional entrepreneurs, innovators and young disruptors on Forbes’ list of 30 Under 30.

Forbes magazine annually features 30 honorees on each of the lists for 20 industries, ranging from art to venture capital. Lee was included in the finance category. At age 27, he is the youngest director in the commodities business unit at Bank of America, where he is head of Commodity and FX Systematic Strategy Trading. Lee generated over $120 million in the last three years of trading and is viewed as a rising leader within the markets division at the firm.

In 2021, Lee returned to the classroom at Rice as a subject matter expert to co-teach and organize the guest lecture series for the Department of Statistics course in Computational Finance. He also serves on the Center for Computational Finance and Economic Systems (CoFES) advisory board.

Lee earned his B.A. in mathematical economic analysis in 2014 and an M.S. in statistics in 2015 from Rice and subsequently joined Bank of America in Houston where he has focused on low-frequency alpha generation. He completed a master’s in information and data science at UC Berkeley in 2018.
