Max Lee, MS, CFA, was one of 600 trailblazers in North America to make the honor roll of unconventional entrepreneurs, innovators and young disruptors on Forbes’ list of 30 Under 30.

Global commodities trading expert Maxwell Lee has joined Jain Global as a portfolio manager at the firm’s Houston office after nearly a decade of service at Bank of America.

Lee was the youngest managing director in the commodities business unit and one of the youngest in global markets at Bank of America, where he was head of Commodity and FX Systematic Strategy Trading.

In 2023, the Rice University alumnus was one of 600 trailblazers in North America to make the honor roll of unconventional entrepreneurs, innovators and young disruptors on Forbes’ list of 30 Under 30 for the finance category.

Lee has been an adjunct professor of the practice of statistics at Rice since 2021 and a CoFES External Advisory Board member since 2022. He has co-taught CoFES courses with Michael Jackson, lecturer and director of the Professional Master of Statistics (MSTAT) Program, and organized semester guest lecture series involving top industry experts in quantitative finance or financial engineering. Lee also worked with Jackson and the late Professor John Dobelman to inspire students into the quantitative finance and financial services field through trading simulation platforms.

After graduating from Rice with a B.A. in Mathematical Economic Analysis and Managerial Studies and a minor in Financial Computation and Modeling (FCAM) in 2014, and an M.S. in Statistics in 2015, Lee joined Merrill Lynch Commodities, where he began his focus on low-frequency alpha generation. He completed his master’s in Information and Data Science at UC Berkeley in 2018, became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and is a level II candidate for both Chartered Market Technician (CMT) and Certificate in Performance Measurement (CIPM).
